My name is Ms. Nita Barber and I am a Second Grade Teacher here at Dumfries Elementary School. This is my third year here at Dumfries and my eighth year teaching. I went to college at the University of South Carolina where I earned my B.A. in English and continued to get my Master's in Elementary Education. I am proud to be a teacher on the elementary level and I believe that teaching children is a wonderful and rewarding job. I have always wanted to teach and I cannot imagine doing anything different. I believe that all students are special jewels and that they all have the ability to learn. I am dedicated to the teaching profession and the overall development of all students.

In Second Grade, your child will have a fun-filled year! We learn about a variety of topics such as Community Life, Economics, Geography, Native Americans, Life Cycles, Egypt and China! Your child will also participate in Guided Reading groups to enhance their reading skills and love for reading. I also love to teach the students about different Authors and we always have an Author of the Month that we study and read aloud their books each day. The kids love to learn about various Authors and it allows the students to build a love of reading. My main goals in the classroom this year is maintain an enthusiasm and love for learning!

Outside of school, I am a mother of three. I have a son and two daughters. The children love to hear about my family outside of school because it makes them see me as not only as a teacher, but as a mother as well. They all know that I have their best interest at heart!
